What causes tooth pain?
A toothache or tooth pain is caused when the nerve in the root of a tooth or surrounding a tooth is irritated.
Dental (tooth) infection, decay, injury, or loss of a tooth are the most common causes of dental pain.
Pain may also occur after an extraction (tooth is pulled out). Pain sometimes originates from other areas and radiates to the jaw, thus appearing to be tooth pain.
Bacteria growing inside your mouth can contribute to gum disease and dental decay, both of which can cause pain. Often, gum disease will not result in any pain.
What causes tooth pain?
You can prevent the majority of dental problems by flossing, brushing with fluoride toothpaste, and having your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year. The dentist may apply sealants and fluoride, which are especially important for children’s teeth.
How do we go about pain management?
We conduct a detailed evaluation to figure out what is causing the pain. We may suggest a few X-Rays/scans to confirm the diagnosis. Once we have confirmed the root cause, we suggest a relevant treatment alongside corresponding medication. Based on your go-ahead, we provide the treatment. Once the pain relief is achieved, we put you on a maintenance program with multiple follow-up appointments to help you follow a good oral hygiene regime so that you lead a healthy lifestyle free of oral pain.
Are there any other causes of pain in the head, neck and facial areas?
Yes, there is an important aspect of pain which often goes undiagnosed, in fact many times, even misdiagnosed. The most important joint of your face which connects your lower jaw to the skull is called the jaw joint (temporomandibular joint or TMJ). If damaged, it can cause ear pain, sinusitis-like-pain, migraine-like headache, even dizziness and many other symptoms.
