- Brush thoroughly twice a day.
- Hold the brush at 45-degree angle where the gum line meets the teeth.

With the help of a process called Probing which helps in measuring the depth of space between tooth and gum, known as Pocket.
Based on the clinical examination by our Gum Specialist, the depth of the pocket is determined, few radiographic investigations may also be done to ascertain the amount of bone support to the tooth. Accordingly, one of the following treatments may be suggested.

It has often been noticed that in some patients the problem may be due to the teeth not being perfectly “straight”.
There are several muscles that function in tandem to help open and close the mouth. They control the lower jaw (mandible) as it moves forward, backward, and side-to-side. Both TM joints are involved in these movements. Each TM joint has a disc between the ball and socket (see diagram).
The disc cushions the load while enabling the jaw to open widely and perform rotational and translational movements. Any problem that prevents this complex system of muscles, ligaments, discs and bones from working together properly may result in a painful TMJ disorder.

The treatment depends on the stage at which you have come in. TMD is a complex multifactorial disorder which worsens as time progresses. The earlier you start treatment the better it is.
The early stage TMDs can be treated with Non-Invasive procedures involving Splint therapy/ Orthotics along with Laser therapy, Ultrasound and Physiotherapy.
The later stage TMDs may require additional Injections &/or Few invasive interventions.
Extremely complex cases may also require surgical interventions under general anesthesia. Composite Veneers
A composite resin is a tooth-colored plastic mixture filled with glass (silicon dioxide). Composites are not only used to restore decayed areas, but are also used for cosmetic improvement of the smile by changing the color of the teeth or reshaping disfigured tooth.

When should children first visit a dentist ?
“first visit by first birthday.” Early dental care is important for dental prevention in the future. However , a dental problem can be early. A major dental concern for young children is early childhood caries, also known as baby bottle tooth decay or nursing caries.
This condition is caused by frequent and prolonged exposure of baby’s teeth to juice, sweetened liquids and milk (including breast milk) . Almost any liquid except plain water contains sugar which can be converted into acid in the mouth. This acid causes tooth decay called as nursing caries. The longer and more often food and drinks are one of the teeth; the greater the risk of decay.
Preventing baby bottle tooth decay:
- Begin oral care early. Wipe the baby’s gums with a wet washcloth or a clean gauze pad after each feeding.
- Babies and toddlers should finish their naptime and bedtime bottles before going to bed. Never allow your baby or toddler to fall asleep with a bottle containing milk , formula, fruit juices or sweetened liquids or a pacifier dipped in sugar or honey.
- Encourage children to drink from a cup by their first birthday.
- Don’t let children constantly sip on sugary liquids ( including milk and juice) from training (sippy) cups. Offer these liquids at mealtimes.
- Help your child develop good eating habits early and choose nutritious snacks.
Good eating habits :
Offer your child a well balanced diet with a variety of foods.
Cut down on high sugar snacks and offer a diet low in sugar like carrot, cucumber, deseeded tomatoes, fruits etc.
Avoid soft sticky sweets like toffees, chocolates, lollipops etc.
If your child needs medicine, ask if sugar free variety is available.
Foods that are high in nutrition and dentally healthy :
Fresh foods, green and raw vegetables, yoghurt,dry,roasted nuts,whole grain bread, beans, upma, chapati,etc.
Food that are good in nutrition but poor for teeth :
Chikki, milk shakes, dry fruits, pudding, biscuits, cheese etc.

Food particles and bacteria from a sticky substance called plaque on teeth. Bacteria in the paque make acid that eats away the tooth enamel and this causes the tooth decay. Brushing keeps plaque from forming, keeping the tooth clean & healthy.
Dental care
- Children should brush their teeth at least twice a day.
- For children under twelve months; wipe the teeth with a damp gauze pad or washcloth.
- For children between 1 to 3 years; select a small size toothbrush with soft bristles that will be gentle on gums.
- Control the amount of toothpaste to maximum a size.
- Learn the correct brushing technique from the dentist.
- Proper amount of fluoride required to strengthen the teeth.
- Fluoride from toothpaste gets incorporated into the enamel as a result of regular brushing. This makes enamel stronger, resistant to plaque and bacteria.
- Recommended only for kids older than four years of age.
- To prevent tooth decay , the dentist can give topical fluoride treatment.
Sealants are resins or plastic materials filled in the little ridges on the chewing part of a child’s teeth, molar and premolars, to protect and seal the tooth from food and plaque.
Some of these sealants do release fluoride as well.
Children with newly erupted posterior permanent teeth benefit the most with sealants as these teeth are at the highest risk of developing pit and fissure caries.
Calcium is essential for the growth of strong bones and teeth.
Calcium can be obtained from milk, cheese, yogurt, milk based custards, nuts, leafy vegetables etc.

Tell your child that you are going to a friend/uncle who’s also a doctor and like children and he may just check his/her teeth.
The fact that getting teeth examined regularly may help finding problems – blackness, cavities early.
If possible, both the parents must remain present with the child in the first visit.
Give your doctor enough time to talk to your child. The time spent initially on building rapport and gaining his/her confidence will in turn save the time required for treatment later.

Do not voice your own fears about dentistry (pain, blood, etc.) in front of children . Your dentist can answer your queries separately.
Avoid dental appointments during the naptime or when he/she is too tired.
Don’t bribe him/her with a gift beforehand. You may reward appropriate behavior in the clinic ( if obtained ) later.
Don’t make complaints of the child’s behavior to the doctor. Also don’t expect perfect behavior at all visits.
Don’t promise him/her in advance about the time the doctor would take to treat , the pain he/she might get etc. Which can mislead him/her. Simply say you don’t know.

The following are general suggestions to help speed recovery:
- Take painkillers as prescribed.
- After 24 hours, you can rinse your mouth gently with warm salt water several times a day to reduce swelling and relieve pain.
- Change gauze pads before they become soaked with blood.
- Relax after surgery. Strenuous physical activity may increase bleeding.
- Eat soft foods such as dal, rice, curd, pudding, or light soup. Gradually add solid foods to your diet as the area heals.
- Do not lie flat. This may prolong bleeding. Prop up your head with pillows.
- Avoid spitting for the first 24 hrs.
- Continue to carefully brush your teeth and tongue.
- Apply an ice or cold pack to the outside of your mouth to help relieve pain and swelling.
- Do not use sucking motions, such as when using a straw to drink.
- Do not smoke or consume alcohol
A few days after the procedure, your dentist will remove the stitches.
If you maintain good dental care after the surgery, the flap procedure should allow you to clean your teeth and gums better. Your gums should become pink and healthy again.
The roots of your teeth may become more sensitive.
The contour or shape of your gums may change.

- Stay away from hot foods and drinks for a couple of days and stick to soft foods and liquids for the first week. As you return to a regular diet, be careful when chewing near the site.
- Don’t brush or rinse your mouth the day of the surgery.
- Swish with a mouth rinse after the first 24 hours post-surgery to kill bacteria.
- When you return to brushing your teeth, don’t brush near the grafting area for one month. After this period, use gentle movements with a very soft toothbrush.
Another fact that will help put your mind at ease is that the recovery process after a gum graft is usually short. It’s common to have some soreness in the surgical area for a day or so afterward. But you’ll most likely feel well enough to return to your usual activities a few days after surgery. Still, you’ll need to pay close attention to what you eat. Soft foods, such as mashed vegetables and pudding, are usually the way to go. So as not to irritate or inflame the healing graft but still keep your mouth clean, your dentist or periodontist might prescribe a special mouth rinse. Bone augmentation procedures typically take less than 30 minutes. You can expect to be in our office 1.5 to 2 hours which accounts for consultation, procedure and in-office recovery time.
- Before Your Appointment
your entire medical and dental history will be required and all the information about the medications you’re taking. We may also ask for your physician’s consent & or modification of your medications if required.
After your procedure, you may notice some of the bone particulates working their way out of the socket. This may feel “gritty” in the mouth. This is completely normal and no cause for concern. In some cases, a membrane placed over the socket will come loose after a couple of weeks; this is also no cause for concern. We will remove the membrane as needed at your follow up appointment. As the bone augmentation site heals, you will come in for follow-up appointments with your oral surgeon every few weeks to ensure the bone is healing properly. Once completely healed, you will be scheduled for your dental implant to be placed.
