The main reason children are at high risk for tooth decay is poor oral hygiene. We believe in encouraging children to look after their teeth from an early age. Teaching proper brushing and flossing techniques combined with regular dental visits and diet information help keep tooth decay away.
Before and After picture
What should I do to improve my child’s dental health?
Your child should visit the dentist every six months for regular dental cleanings and checkups.
- We recommend fluoride treatments twice a year along with cleanings to keep teeth their strongest.
- Tooth sealants are also recommended because they “seal” the deep grooves in your child’s teeth, preventing decay from forming in these hard-to-reach areas. Sealants last for several years, but will be monitored at your child’s regular checkups.
What is a fluoride treatment?
Fluoride is a naturally occurring element in the earth’s atmosphere. Studies have shown that it strengthens the tooth and reduces cavity formation by increasing the tooth’s resistance to acids formed by bacteria in the mouth. It is recommended to have fluoride treatment done regularly at the right age to ensure that the teeth remain strong and the incidence of cavities is reduced.
The best and easiest application of fluoride is using a gel. This gel is applied on the teeth and then left in the mouth. We advise to not eat or drink anything post this treatment for a minimum of two hours. This allows best absorption of the fluoride within the tooth.
What are tooth or pit & fissure sealants?
Fissure Sealants : The tooth surface from top is like a series of hills and valleys. This irregular surface is necessary for proper chewing of food, but even with regular brushing, these areas are susceptible to develop cavities. Pit and fissure sealants are materials that seal the depth of the irregular tooth surface, and forms a protective plastic coating. They shield the grooves from food particles and bacteria and thus prevent tooth decay.
What are space maintainers and Can early braces treatment help?
Baby teeth are important for the development of jaws, muscles and help to guide permanent teeth into position when the baby teeth are lost. When the child loses his/her milk teeth too early before the permanent tooth is ready to erupt, he/she may require space maintainers so as to guide the eruption of the permanent teeth in their precise positions and avoid crowding.
A space maintainer is an appliance that is custom-made by a dentist or orthodontist in acrylic or metal material. Its purpose is to keep the space open to allow the permanent tooth to erupt and come into place.
It is important to know the benefits of early orthodontic treatment and using space maintainers and how it can help support your child’s dental health.
- It prevents the need for extraction of teeth later on if the braces are put at a later date.
- It guides the jaw growth and guides the teeth in their right position from the start.
- It helps bring about better results without having to compromise

A milk tooth usually stays in until a permanent tooth underneath pushes it out and takes its place. Unfortunately, some children lose a milk tooth to soon.
